Bowling Green Kicker Is Challenged To 53-Yard FG For A Scholarship, Earns Said Scholarship
Talk about pressure..
As a kicker you’re already living a pretty stressful life. People know when you’re good and people definitely know when you’re bad. Hell, we’ve read about death threats over the years and seen them all over social media after kickers miss game-winners in big games.
Jake Suder, a redshirt junior at Bowling Green, got put under a different kind of pressure earlier this week however as the coaching staff challenged him to a 53-yard field goal to earn a scholarship.
It wasn’t just some 20 percent scholarship or anything either, this was for a full scholarship.
Bowling Green spokesman Jason Knavel had this to say to Yahoo:
“Coach had two scholarships still available for kids this year and Jake was one of the few kids who they had on their short list as a possibility for those two. There had been no final determination on exactly how those scholarships would be given out,” Knavel told Yahoo Sports via email. “So, at practice, they were kicking and Jake was nailing them. So when they got to the long one (53 yards out), Coach Jinks out of the blue told him, ‘Knock this one down for a full scholarship.’ It really was organic and out of the blue.”
Let’s also not discount the fact that his entire team is giving him exactly two feet to kick this thing while screaming like madmen.
Shoutout to the long snapper and holder as well though, I’m sure those guys were nervous as hell. Who wouldn’t be? If the holder comes up with a bad hold, yeah maybe they do a second-take, but who knows?
Anyways, this is a nice feel good clip to get your weekend going.
