UCF Kicker Loses Scholarship And Eligibility For Not Demonetizing His YouTube Videos
And the NCAA strikes yet again.
Donald De La Haye owns a YouTubue channel called Deestroying. The junior is also the kicker for the UCF Golden Knights, but apparently those two things don’t mix.
He has over 97,000 YouTube subscribers and has started to monetize his videos to make some cash, you know, since he’s in college and money is tight/kind of important for just about 100% of college students . Think of YouTube as his job, on top of his other two ‘jobs’ of school and football.
A majority of his videos, which again are monetized, do reference him being a student-athlete, and the NCAA saw that as a violation. It was announced on Monday, due to him not demonetizing his channel, De La Haye was ruled ineligible for the upcoming season which also means he has lost his scholarship.
As you can collect from the above statement, De La Haye was told he could maintain his monetized YouTube channel but would have to stay away from referencing his status as a student-athlete.
This is pretty unbelievable, to say the least.
De La Haye was creative, entertaining and downright smart enough to come up with these video ideas and turn that into a source of income through YouTube. Thousands of people around the world use YouTube as a source of income, but since De La Haye is an NCAA athlete he can’t use that as a subject in his own life on YouTube? It makes zero sense.
With the loss of his scholarship, De La Haye has started a Go Fund Me page to help pay his tuition.
De La Haye posted this video explaining the entire situation after the news broke:
