The Way Erica Shepherd Won This U.S. Girls’ Junior Semifinal Is A Disgrace To Golf
This is one of the worst golf videos you’ll ever see.
Many of you probably didn’t know that the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur tournament is currently going on, but it is, and the semifinal matches concluded on Friday. And, for those that don’t know, the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur is a very, very big deal.
Erica Shepherd, 16, took on Elizabeth Moon, 17, in one of the semifinals and the match went into extra holes. Moon had a birdie putt to win the match and advance to the finals, but missed it leaving herself a tap-in within three inches. Immediately after missing the putt, she pulls the ball back to hit the putt again (for practice purposes) which is totally legal in match play, but apparently Shepherd forgot the unwritten rules of golf:
Again, she had a tap-in for her par which she just assumed Shephard would automatically give her seeing as how it was a THREE-INCH PUTT but as soon as Moon dragged her putt back, Shephard decided to turn into a non-classy competitor and saying “I didn’t say that was good.” Shephard won the match in horrid fashion.
For all of those that are going to come out and say ‘oh, well technically those are the rules’ no, you people suck. And the ruling the official gives that ‘you can’t concede after the fact’ is bogus. It’s called courtesy, sportsmanship, common knowledge; you know, the game of golf, but the USGA doesn’t care and never will. Shepherd clearly didn’t want to extend the match so she advanced to the final of one of the biggest amateur tournaments on the planet on this dumbass ruling.
You simply don’t do this.
All the girls playing in this event have to be 18 or under. These are kids competing when it comes down to it, and this is just brutal. That’s the only way to put it.
