Sunday At Augusta Didn’t Disappoint As Sergio Garcia Finally Won A Major
We now live in a world where Sergio Garcia is a major champion, and that’s cool.
Sunday at Augusta perhaps wasn’t what everyone wanted, but nevertheless it was drama packed.
In a perfect world we would’ve seen the foursome of Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose all battling it out down the final stretch, but instead we only got Garcia and Rose.
That isn’t a bad thing. Hell, we got a playoff at The Masters, no golf fan should be upset about that at all.
Spieth played bad outside of his final four holes while Fowler was equally as bad. Spieth carded a final round of 75 while Fowler was a stroke worse at 76.
We had some magic on №16 with Matt Kuchar jarring a hole-in-one, so that added to the excitement as well.
With all of that being said however, we knew this was going to be a battle between Rose and Garcia by the time the group made it to №10 tee.
At the turn it felt as if momentum was on Rose’s side as he birdied three of his last four while Garcia was playing well at two-under on the day, but things were sliding Rose’s way.
Things then completely turned to Rose through №10 and Amen Corner as Garcia bogeyed both 10 and 11 while Rose played the tough stretch at even par.
The 15th is where things completely changed.
Sergio absolutely piped a drive on the Par 5 and nearly dunked it for double eagle from just under 180-yards out. Garcia went on to make his eagle and Rose made birdie and the two Europeans were tied going to the iconic Par 3 16th.
Both hit unreal shots, each within 10 feet, and while Rose sunk his birdie putt Garcia shortened his putting stroke and missed giving Rose the edge with two to play.
The momentum then swung yet again on №17 as Rose found the greenside bunker on his approach shot leading to a bogey and Garcia making a par.
All square walking to the 18th tee and this is the stuff any golf fan lives for.
Both hit the fairway on №18 and both hit exceptional shots to the green. Garcia had a chance to win his first ever major with a 9-footer for birdie but just missed.
The duo went back to 18 tee for a playoff and it was Garcia who captured the tournament. Rose made a mess of the hole off of the tee and with his second shot leading to a bogey giving Sergio two putts to win the green jacket but it only took him one.
You can’t not feel great for Sergio winning his first ever major championship. The man has been through plenty and has come oh so close not only at Augusta but at other majors and he finally made history on Sunday.
Check out this insane camerawork by the crew capturing Garcia’s reaction to making the putt and his fiances’.
Only 364 more days until next year’s Sunday at Augusta.
