Steph Curry Shoots 74 In First-Round Of Web.Com Event
Alright, are we sure Steph Curry is an actual human?
Alright so Steph Curry teed it up on the Web.com Tour today, which for those that don’t know is the pro circuit just below the PGA Tour. The top 25 on the money list at the end of the year get their PGA Tour cards; it’s a very big deal.
I bitched a few weeks ago about how Curry getting a sponsors exemption into the tournament is an absolute joke, that it would be better served to give it to an actual golfer grinding to make a living instead of an NBA champion that could fill a swimming pool with cash, but here we are.
So it turns out that Curry can play. He shot a 74 in the first-round of the Ellie Mae Classic. That’s dam impressive. It’s a tournament golf course under tournament conditions. The dude is an NBA All-Star and just won a damn ring and he fired a 74 today.
Things got off to a very, very bad start for Curry too. He hooked his opening tee-shot on 10 into a golf cart’s cupholder, but he’s got ice in his veins and saved a bogey. He turned at a respectable 2-over which included pars on his final three holes on his front-nine, which was the back-nine.
Things turned a little more sour on the front-nine with a bogey on №2 that was then followed with a double-bogey on №5 but then he turned into a killer and birdied №6 and №8.
Sure he’s 10-shots off the lead which is held by Brandon Harkins, but damn, we need to figure out if Steph truly is a human.
For anyone that actually plays golf, like plays very regularly like myself, I can’t really wrap my head around all of this. There is no doubting that Curry is a freak of an athlete, but to fire a 74 during his first truly professional tournament experience at that level is unbelievably impressive. Sure he’s been under the biggest spotlight on the planet for years now, but he was the one swinging the club today; he didn’t have any help.
The man is just a couple of months off of winning an NBA title and he’s out here firing 74’s on an extremely legitimate professional tour.
