Claudio Ranieri’s Statement About Leicester City Firing Him Is Gut Wrenchingly Sad

Leicester City did the impossible a year ago by winning the Premier League. If it isn’t the greatest sports upset in the history of sports (it is) then it’s up there.

Claudio Ranieri led the Foxes to their first top-tier title but he was fired on Thursday less than 300 days since Leicester pulled off the unimaginable.

Leicester has been horrible this season in the Premier League with a 5–6–14 record while clinging to the №17 spot in the table.

The firing didn’t really surprise anyone, but it’s a pretty bold move. I’m more on the opinion that they could and should have held on to Ranieri until the end of the season out of respect, but then again Leicester can’t afford to fall any further and be relegated.

Ranieri had this to say about the move, via PADugout:

“Yesterday my dream died. After the euphoria of last season being crowned Premier League Champions all I dreamt of was staying with Leicester City, the Club I love, for always.”

“Sadly this was not to be.”

He continued in saying, “my heartfelt thanks to everybody at the Club, all the players, the staff, everybody who was there and was part of what we achieved. But mostly to the supporters. You took me into your hearts from day one and loved me. I love you too. No one can ever take away what we together have achieved, and I hope you think about it and smile every day the way I always will.”

Way to pull at the heartstring, sir.
