Brooks Koepka made things look easy on his way to capturing his first major on Sunday at the 117th U.S. Open.

The 27-year-old might have overpowered Erin Hills, but he did so in a calm and cool manner that was something extremely special to watch. Koepka fired a five-under 67 to put him at -16 for the tournament giving him the four-shot victory. Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harman finished in a tie for second at -12. With rounds of 67–70–68–67, Koepka tied the scoring record in relation to par set by Rory McIlroy at the 2011 U.S. Open.

The score itself on Sunday was obviously impressive, but Koepka who had just one PGA Tour win under his belt, looked like he had been there before. He made it look simple and with the winds howling on the longest course in U.S. Open history, Erin Hills was the exact opposite of simple on Sunday.

Koepka got things going early with back-to-back birdies to start and he simply didn’t look back. He missed a few fairways, but he made that up by hitting all but one green in regulation and the flatstick was simply on fire all day long and it was on full display as he carded three straight birdies between holes 14 and 16.

The built like a tank golfer finished the week averaging 322.1 yards off the tee good enough for seventh best among the field and led the field in greens in regulation as he hit 62 of 72. Koepka also didn’t have a double bogey or worse all week long and that is a recipe for success at any U.S. Open.

With his life-changing win, Koepka will move from his №22 official world rankings into the top 12. Oh, and the win earned the former Florida State Seminole $2.16 million.
