This year of golf has absolutely flown by. It feels like we just watched Sergio Garcia win his first career major at Augusta just a few weeks ago, but here we are, it’s time for the PGA Championship.

Quail Hollow in Charlotte, NC is the site for the 99th PGA Championship. It is the first time the track has hosted a major, but it is the site of the yearly Wells Fargo Championship. The course has also gotten a face-lift over the past year or so with the end-goal being a faster course and just simply more difficult. They have re-vamped their greens, grew up the rough and more. That probably has a little bit to do with Rory McIlroy lighting the place on fire shooting -21 on his way to his 2015 Wells Fargo win.

The course is set to play at around 7,600 yards this week so the long-hitters are going to be licking their chops , especially seeing as how rain is in the forecast making the course even longer.

The biggest storyline heading into the week surrounds Jordan Spieth as he chases the career Grand Slam. If he is able to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday he will become the youngest ever to win all four majors.

Here are the 12 golfers with the best odds this week, via OddsShark:

  • Rory McIlroy +700
  • Jordan Spieth +900
  • Hideki Matsuyama +1200
  • Dustin Johnson +1200
  • Rickie Fowler +1400
  • Jon Rahm +2200
  • Brooks Koepka +2200
  • Jason Day +2800
  • Justin Rose +4000
  • Justin Thomas +4000
  • Adam Scott +4000
  • Sergio Garcia +4000

As you can see, McIlroy has been handed the best odds to win this week and rightly so, really. The man has absolutely owned Quail Hollow throughout his career. He posted the course record with a 61 back in 2015 on his way to victory and has six top 10 finishes including two wins and one playoff loss here since 2010.

If history proves itself, and the golf gods smile upon us this weekend, we truly could get the Spieth-McIlroy major championship battle we all crave. We can only hope, right.

I don’t think you can overlook the likes of John Rahm and Dustin Johnson this week, or any week for that matter really, but there is something about Rory and this track that just fits perfectly.

McIlroy is your winner this week and I think he wins by at least three shots.
